Text messaging is both good and bad. the good is that it is a way to communicate with people while being active and doing things that you enjoy. also instead of just talking to one person at a time you can talk to multiple and about different things. But there are drawbacks. one drawback is that it cost money every text message you send and recieve. then if you send a picture message or video message it cost even more. its only ten cents to send a message and five cents to recieve but when you start text messaging a lot it adds up. i text roughly about 250 times a day. that is a lot of money and without a plan i woud be paying a lot of money. many phone companies have plans that allow you to text message to the same phone company recipients with a permanent monthly sum. also they include the idea of other phone companies in that plan but instead of an unlimited amount of texts to this companies recipients you can only have a certain amount. that is how i had to pay over 200 dollars over the monthly payment because i was texting my girlfriend and she had a different phone company. i didnt know that i was texting her that much over but when my mom finally got the bill i was in trouble.

Since texting has just become the thing to do in the last decade its hard to imagine the idea of texting not being born in the united states. the united states has almost done everything first but actually Europe is one of the first to use texting. Europe though has been texting much more and longer then the United States making them have texting more involved with everything that they do including businesses.  The united states so far doesnt have this idea yet but just give them a few more years and they will be there.

Text messaging really has expanded into the new thing to do. to find out how much it has become the new thing i did a survey in my home town. I surveyed several different times in my home town of Liberty. The first time I did it I only asked my friends from home who are all around my age group. Then I thought to myself that I needed more to this so I also wanted to get another age group in. I also asked some people who were in their forties.

The questions I asked were how much do you text a day and also do you text with t9 word or do you use ABC? I came up with several different things. Many people texted on average with the amount of around 150 a day. To my surprise I realized that is was about 54 percent in favor of t9 word. I would have thought it would have been more to around 70 percent that use t9 word. I thought this because many people I know think it is faster and easier to use but in my survey I realized more people think my way and use ABC.

When you think of texting there are two real ways to do it. One way is the way that I use and that’s ABC. ABC is when you press the button that has your letter that you want and you press it until that letter appears on the screen and then you continue with that until you finish what you’re writing. T9 word is different. This helps you get the words that you want. All you need to do is press the button that has your letter on it once, and then after you do that you keep pressing other buttons once. With doing that it goes through all the letters that are possible for that word and makes the word that it thinks you want to say. Then when you get a word you continue with this process and you get a response.

With this survey and the research it helped to realize that texting is a thing that has spread to all generations and around the globe. i believe that without texting being avaliable then some people wouldnt communicate as much with other people. me personally would be one of those people. this new way of communicating is a great thing but i cant imagine what will be the new thing to help communicate next.

but with the words comes the pictures. some pictures i would like to have are pictures that are mostly of cell phones. but they all cant be the same so i would also have to put some type of pictures with people texting on their phones. my topic is people texting and with that i need to have people texting and everywhere in the world not just in the united states.

Cayce interacts directly with the forum. She is constantly checking the FFF and is an avid user. Cayce says that the forum has become like a second home, the FFF gives her the ability to interact and connect with other users, and she is able to use information from the forum in her job.

The Pew Research Center shows this in scenarios 3 & 4. They have said that technology has eliminated privacy, allows people to know where we are at all times. Users of the forum relate to this because they are addicted to the technology much like the Pew Research talks about.

1) Cayce is the user of the forum.

2) Cayce is always using the footage, Margot says that it has become an obsession rather than a hobby.

3)The FFF seems like a place for Cayce to escape from her real world, as quoted from above the FFF can be compared to a “place to retreat to”.

4) This is the same as the above, the Pew Research Center talks about how addicting technology is, and the above passage shows how Cayce is obsessed with the forum.

this is just her talking about the way that she knows and what she feel she knows about Parkaboy. this is also about the fact that the only way that she knows about him is through the f:f:f. the f:f:f is fetish:footage:forum. Cayce goes on this site and talks to parkaboy and that is how she knows how he has extreme passion for footage. in this passage it is more positive since the fact that with this media she discovered parkaboy and likes. she doesnt really know much about him but that he enjoys the footage. thats y she likes him since she loves footage.

f:f:f is most similar to things like blogs and other things that you can show things and people can reply to them and get to know each other. this to me sounds like a little bit too much excitement for just finding out about someone through this. i used to have myspace and i never did this with people. the only way i talked to people with this much excitement is if i know them and are already friends with them. i believe this is kind of weird but i guess some people do this in real life as well.

this quote is saying that convergence isnt through being involved with media, you gain convergence through interaction with others. this is true; many people have different opinions on things and i believe that when someone gives you there opinion no matter if you liked it or not you still always keep it in your mind and remember what they say to you.

during the wiki project it was very weird and difficult to think of things by yourself and make a whole page by yourselves. once people came together and we discussed things it made it much easier and things flew. this quote relates to the wiki experience by the way that we had to communicate with others to make something good happen. when we all just sat down by a computer and through out information we did it much faster and it was also better. we converged by the social contact with others and it helped us with this project and it can help with other projects and other things in general as well. even though i hate typing and most of all reading i enjoyed doing the wiki project because i like working in groups. it makes you more closely related to others plus other peoples opinions help by making the project that much better. media is pretty much everything in this generation and by reading about it and doing work on it, it makes me understand how they draw people into it and also how they trick people.

this quote is talking about the way that today media is our life. Most Americans in some way are affected by media everyday, whether it be by the radio, television, video games, and cell phones. he also says that its hard to grasp and he is right. we really dont think about having media in our life since it started off right away in this generation. everything is part of media now a days.

my research project for ENG 105 is cell phones and texting. this is related to this quote by the fact that cell phones are part of the media. people no matter what the age have cell phones. the main question that i have is what age group is using this idea of texting? i always thought it was teenagers who texted but i heard older people text as well. this quote is also related to cell phones and texting through the fact that it is part of our everyday lives like the quote says. many people text everyday and a lot throughout that day. that is where they get their media for that day.  texting is addictive and very easy. it helps when you are stuck in a situation that you really dont have time to talk on the phone but you can text and still do what you have to do at that time.

this quote to me is a great way to explain everyone in the world and what way they are affected by media. i myself am affected by media convergence. since i have been alive the media has changed a lot. many people now a days have a High Definition Televisions and ipods and things like that but when i first wanted a music player i had a Walkman, which plays cassettes. this is very old to me now but it was very exciting to have when i was like eight years old. this really makes you realize that in 10 years we have moved from Walkman cassette players to the new way of just downloading songs onto a machine. this makes me wonder whats next? what else are we going to create to make things easier for everyone to use? this whole thing of convergence affects me deeply and everyone that is in the world today. every minute people are trying to figure out what else to make, what else to do. who says that they wont make things that they think will be good and everyone buys them and then it doesn’t work well and it harms the economy and the people who buy it. i dont want this to happen at all and i think that we do need to keep technology and improving it but creating new machines doesnt also work the way that they want it to.

“This person is saying that Ender is not having a normal six year olds life. He has to go out and fight in a war instead of doing normal six year old things like playing with other six year olds and going to school.”I liked this passage because it shows how media has an effect on children as well. thi child wasnt having a normal childs life becayse of media. Many children all around the world are spending more time playing video games and getting addicted to media instead of living a life of playing in the yard and having fun. Blog Post #7 

“Even though I let anyone look at my facebook and myspace pages I have protection through the computer and it allows certain pop-ups and spam to not go onto my computer and mess my computer up. I like that a lot.” This passage tells you that even if you dont have protection on certain sites and things like that the new technology can help you and protect it for you. the computer can have things like pop-up blocker and spam blocker which helps you avoid getting thing you dont want when you go on to certain things. “when you look at the arguement of children and the media and how they are getting addicted to the media you notice that it is getting to become more and more. children like games and games are more fun to them then going outside. they also like watching television but mostly cartoons and cartoons are on all the time which kind of doesnt allow much time for anything else.” this is completely true now a days. my friend’s brother  who is six always is by the television either watching cartoons or playing video games. he always is there and if he isnt there he is running around the house looking for people to play with him. “I believe that the statement of video games make people stupid is not right. i agree with thethe reality that it makes them sharper. you need a lot of thinking abilities sometimes to beat a really hard level of a game or how to make certain things move a certain way and things like that. while just reading a book just makes you absorb knowledge that really has nothing to do with sharpening your mind. it just makes you have knowledge that not everyone has, which isnt always useful in the real world.” i liked this quote because its talking about how gaming makes you smart as well as books but books only get you book smart. i still agree with it. playing games involves a lot of thinking sometimes and if you do it wrong or arent thinking then you die in the game and lose a life. books do get you smart but a different way. they get you book smart which is only good if someone is talking about that book. “today in class we discussed our visual arguement project and then we went around and looked at each others slideshows. doing this helped me to realize that everyone has something different. some people had nasty pictures to help get there point across and others had simple easy pictures to do the same thing. ” i liked this quote because doing this activity helped me to realize what i wanted to do with mine. people commented on mine and told me things to do and i listened. i also got good information from looking at other slideshows. this activity in general was a good idea and it helped me in this project. now that i did that i had to take the word information and put it to what we did in class on tuesday. the way that we used the word information is by looking over the information that were on other peoples blogposts and the written information that we had to think about to make a decision on what topic we wanted to make a page on the wiki. after looking over the information we decided to do the pew research with scenario 3, 4, 5. this is the topic that we the most information on and we felt the most comfortable doing.
